What To Expect At The Appointment

Our preventive care includes regularly scheduled professional teeth cleanings. We schedule the frequency of hygiene appointments depending on the health of your child’s teeth and gums. We strongly encourage you to schedule a teeth cleaning appointment at least once every six months to maintain your child’s optimum dental health.

In the case that your child develops conditions such as tooth decay or periodontal diseases due to the accumulation of deposits, poor oral hygiene practices, or other factors, teeth cleaning appointments may need to be scheduled more frequently.

During our professional cleaning and assessments, we regularly monitor the child’s oral health. Regular preventive care appointments allow us to identify any problems at an early stage, thus enabling them to be fixed easily.

At a standard appointment, our dental hygienist uses a variety of methods to build up deposits from the teeth and soft tissue. Scaling and ultrasonic instruments allow the dentist to remove plaque and hard deposits such as stains and calculus. During the appointment the dental hygienist will also:

  • Check for cavities
  • Take x-rays if necessary
  • Apply fluoride to the child’s teeth
  • Assess existing dental restorations
  • Educate you and your child on oral health
  • Screen for diseases and cancer
